Tips and questions
- What is the best bread for French toast?
- Thick slices of brioche, challah or a day-old loaf. Fresh sliced bread gets soggy and falls apart.
- Why is my French toast soggy in the middle?
- The heat was too high, so the outside browned before the centre set. Cook it on medium heat a little longer.
- Is this the same as Spanish torrijas?
- They are close cousins: torrijas soak longer in sweetened milk, are often fried in oil and coated in sugar and cinnamon.
